The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 200 pieces of raw donkey skins concealed in a vehicle and other contrabands valued at N1.9m in Adamawa state.
The Customs Area Comptroller, Salihu Kazaure, disclosed this during press conference in Yola Thursday.
He pointed out that, the smugglers evaded arrest by fleeing into the bush leaving behind their contrabands around border villages with Cameroon.
He said 127 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice and 12,350 litres of Premium Motor Spirit were seized from August to September this year.
According to him, informants shielding smugglers in some communities as the major challenge faced by the command.
The command said it will involve traditional rulers and journalists in its sensitization drive to enlighten the public on why the federal government banned smuggling and importation of contrabands.
