Manchester United have set their asking price for Alejandro Garnacho as Antonio Conte looks to bring the winger to Napoli.

Garnacho has made more than 100 appearances for United since graduating from the club’s academy and making his first-team debut in April 2022.

At one point Garnacho was arguably the brightest talent at Old Trafford but his reputation has waned somewhat over the past 12 months.

The Argentina international has started less than half of Manchester United’s Premier League games so far this season and fallen behind Amad Diallo in Ruben Amorim’s pecking order.

Despite his drop-off, Garnacho still has many admirers across Europe and has emerged as a target for Serie A leaders Napoli.

Ex-Chelsea and Tottenham manager Conte recently confirmed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was pushing to leave Napoli and, according to reports in Italy, he wants to sign Garnacho to replace the Georgian star.

Manchester United do not deem Garnacho to be ‘unsellable’ and want £50m to sell the 20-year-old.

Kvaratskhelia, 23, has been linked with a move to the Premier League but is said to be closing in on a switch to French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

‘I have never hidden away from uncomfortable questions,’ Conte said this weekend. ‘If I speak, I’ll tell the truth, otherwise I prefer to stay quiet, I don’t tell lies.

‘We are talking about an important player. A player who was already due to leave in the summer.

‘He asked the club to be sold, without mincing his words. This is what was said to me, the player has confirmed his decision to me.

‘Personally I feel very disappointed, because I spent six months trying to make Kvara feel at the centre of the project, working with him, showing him that we could do something great and also working with the club for six months on the renewal.

‘From my point of view, it’s a great disappointment. Today I have to take a step back. I can’t keep those who want to leave tied up in chains.

‘I did that in the summer and had six months to convince all the parties to find a solution.’

Garnacho is struggling to get in a Manchester United team that are sitting just 13th in the Premier League, seven points above the relegation zone.

Conte’s Napoli, meanwhile, are two points clear at the top of the Serie A table as they look to win their second title in three seasons.

Earlier this month, pundit Graeme Souness labelled Garnacho a ‘wrong’un’ and said he had ‘no chance’ of succeeding under Old Trafford boss Amorim.

‘I spoke last week about the example Bruno Fernandes sets and I hear about Alejandro Garnacho being unhappy with the manager,’ the Liverpool legend wrote in his Daily Mail column.

‘Can someone remind me of just who he is? The last time I looked he was only a 20-year-old boy. One who is only one step up, on a ten-rung ladder. Who are you?

‘He acts like a ‘wrong ‘un’ on the football pitch and, unless he changes, he’s got no chance of fulfilling what obvious potential he has.’
