Footage shows the enormous central pylon of the “Eiffel Tower” ride begin to tip over – almost in slow motion – before smashing down onto the Christmas fair below.
Multiple cable cars that were suspended by the pillar drop from view down into the chaos.
Concerned witnesses rush towards the site in order to help the wounded.
Video of the aftermath shows injured people lying amongst a tangle of metal and cables.
Candyfloss and popcorn lie strewn across the ground.
It has been confirmed that at least two people were admitted to hospital with injuries, though some reports say as many as five were hurt.
Several others suffered from shock but were treated at the scene.
The cause of the tower’s collapse is unclear, but investigations are continuing to determine what went wrong.
The terrifying incident has sparked questions for the fair’s organisers and local authorities over safety standards.
The local council has appealed for calm and assured the public that strict safety measures have been put in place to prevent any similar incident from happening.
The fair has been suspended until further notice.
Two years ago, another fairground ride caused even more chaos when it plunged to the ground – and it was all caught on camera.
Over 50 people were injured when a ride at Dussehra fairground in Mohali, India, came crashing down.
Thrill-seekers can be heard screaming as they plummet 50ft to the platform when the ride malfunctioned.
In a video shared on social media, the spinning wheel can be seen rotating before slightly tilting to one side and crashing onto the platform.
Those strapped into the attraction are flung around, and others come loose from their seats.
Aftermath footage shows panicked witnesses tending to those injured, including a woman looking after a child who is lying on the ground.
A local police official alleged at the time that the organisers were “negligent”, reporting that there were no ambulances at the fair.
