Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced the approval of a dual carriageway project for Iwo town.
Governor Adeleke, while revealing that work would begin on the project by January 2025, maintained that the decision aligns with his administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure across the state and fostering regional development.
The governor, who disclosed this during the annual Iwo Day, stressed that the importance of the project lies in improving connectivity and economic activities in the area.
The dualisation project, the governor disclosed, will transform the Adeeke-Odori road and will be executed in two phases.
“In line with our commitment to equity and fairness, our administration has approved a dual carriageway for Iwo. The dualisation of the Adeeke-Odori road will be done in two phases.
“The first phase of the construction will stretch from Odori to the Post Office area, branching off in front of the Oluwo’s palace. This phase aims to ease traffic flow and provide a modern road network for the central part of Iwo.
“The second phase will extend the dual carriageway from the Post Office to Adeeke Junction. This continuation is expected to further boost infrastructure in the town, ensuring the seamless movement of goods and people.”
He directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to host community engagement events with stakeholders on the proposed highway.
Highlighting some of the achievements of his administration in Iwo, Adeleke, who was represented by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, listed the rehabilitation of the network of roads and Iwo waterworks, among others.
He also reaffirmed the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, as the President of the Iwo Council of Traditional Rulers.
He urged the Oluwo to continue to exercise his vested powers with a sense of accommodation.
Earlier in his address, the President of the Iwo Board of Trustees, Lai Olurode, called on the indigenes of the town to rally support for the Oluwo, whom he said was ready to transform the community within a short time.
Olurode also assured that the leadership of the board would continue to demonstrate a high standard of volunteerism and patriotic zeal in the development of the town.
