The Fifth Chukker Primary School has emerged as the winner of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon in partnership with VFD Microfinance Bank, held in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The Fifth Chukker, a nursery and primary school in Kaduna that provides education for orphans and indigent children, swept most of the prizes at the event during the weekend, marking a significant achievement for the students and the school.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Chairperson of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon, Enitan Rewane, explained that the event was an opportunity to encourage children to be more active, noting the positive impact of sports on their mental health.
Rewane credited the participation of less privileged children to the support of internal and external sponsors, with VFD Microfinance Bank leading the charge.
Also, Project Manager, 5th Chukker Primary School, Mrs. Biodun Adegboye, expressed pride in her students’ grit and determination, sharing their journey of walking 5km to school daily and intensively training for the marathon.
She noted that the competition afforded them their first trip to Lagos and first time flying, making their victory even more remarkable.
“With over 6,000 children enrolled, the school is a testament to resilience and dedication, reflecting the true spirit of the Lagos Kids Mini Marathon. Thanks to VFD Microfinance Bank’s sponsorship, the event has set a new standard for inclusivity and celebration of young talent,” she said.
VFD Microfinance Bank’s Head of Marketing, Mr. Bidemi Alfred, emphasised VFD’s dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle among children and fostering financial literacy through creative initiatives.
