Tottenham star Cristian Romero has criticised chairman Daniel Levy and says the club have lacked investment in the playing squad.
Spurs threw away a two-goal lead against Chelsea on Sunday, in a defeat that piles the pressure on Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian retains the board’s backing for the festive period but results need to improve, with Spurs languishing in the bottom half of the table.
Romero has backed Postecoglou, and says the players are all behind the former Celtic boss.
Instead, the Argentine says the lack of investment in the squad is what is catching up with Tottenham.
‘Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn’t do well, strengthens again, and now they’re seeing results. Those are the things to imitate,’ said Romero.
‘You have to realise that something is going wrong, hopefully, they realise it.
‘The last few years, it’s always the same: first, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it’s always the same people responsible.
‘Hopefully, they realise who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year.’
Spurs spent big on Dominic Solanke last summer, with the England striker arriving from Bournemouth in a £60m deal.
But that deal was funded through the sale of Harry Kane in 2023 for a fee of around £85m to Bayern Munich.
