Ruben Amorim told to be ‘ruthless’ and sell three Man Utd stars

Ruben Amorim needs to be ‘ruthless’ to get Manchester United back to the top, according to Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock, who has named three players who should be ‘moved on’ from Old Trafford.

Amorim was appointed as United’s new manager last month after Erik ten Hag’s turbulent and largely unsuccessful spell in the hot-seat came to an end.

The 39-year-old enjoyed an impressive amount of success at Sporting Lisbon and left the Portuguese side to take over at Manchester United.

Following an unconvincing 1-1 draw with newly-promoted Ipswich Town in his first game in charge, Amorim oversaw a 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday ahead of a huge clash with Premier League title challengers Arsenal.

Amorim has admitted it will take time to turn Manchester United around but Ruddock believes he can start by ”moving on’ three ageing players.

‘If you’re Ruben Amorim and you’re looking around the dressing room for players to clear out then you’re looking at the old guys, the players that are 30 or over,’ ex-Liverpool and England defender Ruddock told 10bet.

‘Everyone knows that United isn’t going to be a quick fix, this is a huge task, and it’s going to take time for United to be challenging again.

‘I think we’re looking at a three-to-four-year plan, so he needs to look at the players that are over the age of 30 and ask himself what kind of role will they be playing in the future of Manchester United.

‘That means people like Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Casemiro, those are the guys that you should be looking to move on if you’re going to move anyone out.

‘Will there be a market for these types of players? I can’t imagine that there will be a long line of teams looking to beat down the Manchester United dressing room door to take them.

‘For Manchester United to return to the club that we know they are, Ruben Amorim is going to have to be ruthless.’

Amorim faces his biggest test since taking over Manchester United on Wednesday night when the Red Devils travel to north London to face Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners suffered a wobble before the international break but have won their last three games to boost hopes of another title challenge.

‘Arsenal are the best team that we’ve faced, by far. But the test is every game,’ Amorim said in his pre-match press conference.

‘If you see the last game, yesterday, was really tough. It was a 4-0 but you see the game like I see it. Every game now is a test without so many minutes to train.

‘Trying to manage the numbers of minutes of so many players, you cannot try to imagine one game.

‘You have to know that some players might have to be out of the pitch in 60 minutes, 70 minutes so it’s really hard at this moment.

‘Everything is a test but Arsenal are… I know it’s not easy for a United coach to say, but they are in a different point of their team. They are in a different moment.’
