England and Manchester City star Phil Foden has named the two ‘most talented players’ he’s played with during his career.
Despite only turning 24 in May, Foden is already closing in on 300 first-team appearances for Man City and has 43 caps for England.
Foden has a staggering six Premier League titles to his name and has also lifted the Champions League trophy as well as four League Cups and two FA Cups.
The playmaker enjoyed his best season to date in 2023-24, scoring 19 goals and making eight assists to be named the Premier League player of the season.
Foden was then taken to Germany as part of England’s Euro 2024 squad but largely underwhelmed despite Gareth Southgate’s side reaching the final, which they lost to Spain.
Given Foden has been at the most dominant team in the Premier League for almost a decade and a mainstay in the England side since 2020, he has played with some of the best players of his generation, but two stand out.
‘There are so many but I always say David [Silva], he was my idol and stuff,’ Foden told The Times.
‘But when I look at Kevin [De Bruyne], the numbers that he puts in, assists goals — I think those two are the most talented I’ve played with. Consistency as well. Never less than seven out of ten.’
In terms of his toughest opponent, Foden rates Jurgen Klopp’s peak Liverpool as the hardest team he has faced.
‘It’s hard to say one player, but if I had to say a team it would be Liverpool when Mané, Salah, Firmino, were together — their team was sensational,’ he added.
‘The way they pressed. That was the toughest game, when we used to play them. Over a long period, Liverpool have been the ones that challenged us the most.’
Bidding to win a record-extending fifth successive Premier League title, Manchester City are currently only third in the table, eight points behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool, who they face on Sunday afternoon.
‘They look frightening to be fair,’ Foden said when asked for his thoughts on the current league leaders.
‘They’ve gone under the radar a bit because everyone was talking about City and Arsenal but we know how good they are. [Sunday’s match] is going to be a challenge and we’re up for it.’
