Yobe takes measures against climate change, establishes erosion, restoration council

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the establishment of the Yobe State Climate Change, Erosion and Restoration Council, YOCCCER.

A statement from office of the Secretary to the State Government indicated that, the development is a significant step towards addressing pressing issues of climate change, erosion, and environmental degradation in the state

The Council has eight terms of reference including, policy development; research and assessment; erosion control and restoration; and climate financing.

Others are capacity building, carbon market and REDD, public engagement and awareness as well as monitoring and evaluation.

According to the statement, the appointments of the Chairman and members of the Council take immediate effect.
