The Edo State Commissioner for Heath, Dr Cyril Oshiomhole, has said he has taken remedial measures against some construction defects discovered at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in Benin.

PUNCH Online reports that the remodelled hospital was inaugurated by the immediate past governor, Godwin Obaseki, recently before he left office.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility on Monday, Oshiomhole, accompanied by a team of medical consultants and the contractor of the hospital, said the team had agreed on how best to correct the error.

He said, “I went round the Stella Obasanjo Hospital to inspect the facility. I was accompanied on the visit by consultants and the contractor handling the project to look at what they had done so far.

“We discovered errors made while constructing the hospital. We discussed what to do to ensure we correct the errors detected. We all agreed that the issues should be resolved, as I love working with the team.

“Teamwork has helped us discover the error, and that is why I have with me gynaecologists and surgeons and some medical consultants who are here to support me.”

Oshiomhole said the contractor and the consultants have agreed to make the necessary adjustments before the commencement of operations in the hospital.

Others who accompanied the commissioner on the inspection were the Permanent Secretary of the Hospital Management Agency, Dr Efosa Aisien; the Director of Clinical Services, Dr Odiko David; and the Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Omuera Francis, among others.
