A statue of Harry Kane has finally been unveiled after years in storage – but England fans all appear to have one particular issue with it.

Initially commissioned by Waltham Forest Council in 2019, the life-size statue of the striker cost £7,200 but has only now found a permenant home.

Local councillors had initially planned for the statue to go up Chingford’s Weaver Line Overground station but those plans were blocked after a TfL’s risk assessment.

Another plan to place it in Ridgeway Park, where the England captain played as a youngster, also fell through after councillors scrapped the proposal.

After years in storage, though, the sculpture has now seen the light of day when it was unveiled on Monday outside the Peter May Sports Centre in Walthamstow where the Bayern Munich striker used to play as a kid.

Fresh off his nation’s thumping 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday, Kane was in attendance to pose alongside the statue which depicts the country’s all-time top goal scorer sitting on a bench with a ball on his knee.

While the statue’s resemblance to the 31-year-old is up for debate, many England fans had one other bone to pick with the decision to grant Kane a statue.

‘Great achievement for Kane, but it’s hard to celebrate a statue without a major trophy to match,’ one user wrote on social media.

Another added: ‘Harry Kane is the first player I’ve seen to have a statue with 0 trophies.’

‘Kane getting a statue when he’s not won a single trophy is hilarious,’ a third joked.

While Kane and the England men’s team came close to ending their trophy hoodoo at Euro 2024 last year, the striker does finally look set to add a trophy to his cabinet this season – albeit not for his country.

With 11 goals and five assists in his first 10 Bundesliga games, Kane has helped fire Bayern into a commanding league position under new manager Vincent Kompany.

The German giants sit five points clear of second and nine ahead of Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table having lost out to Xabi Alonso’s side last season.
