The Arewa Youth Assembly has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and put a stop to what they describe as a “campaign of attacks” against Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL.
The youth group alleged that these attacks are being orchestrated by insiders within the corporation, specifically by senior management staff aiming to discredit Kyari’s leadership and reforms.
In a press release signed by Speaker Mohammed Salihu Danlami, the Arewa Youth Assembly warned that the attacks are not only distracting Kyari from his reform efforts but are also jeopardising President Tinubu’s broader economic goals.
He alleged: “These attacks are sponsored, perfectly planned and orchestrated by insiders, some senior members of the management staff who are desperate to take over the GCEO position.
Danlami also claimed that the internal opposition is a reaction to Kyari’s crackdown on corruption and inefficiency within the corporation.
“They are impacting negatively on the GCEO, distracting him from the ongoing reforms and because of the importance and centrality of the NNPCL to the economy of this country, these attacks are also injurious to the economic reforms and restructuring of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as to the Promise of Renewed Hope agenda,” Danlami warned.
The Arewa Youth Assembly appealed to President Tinubu to address the issue swiftly, suggesting that an intervention could help stabilise the corporation’s leadership and ensure the continuation of essential reforms in Nigeria’s oil sector.
“The President’s support in putting an end to these insider-driven attacks will strengthen the ongoing restructuring efforts and help realise the administration’s goals for a reformed, transparent, and self-sufficient oil sector,” Danlami concluded.
