Abia LP polls a charade – Ex-Commissioner, Kalu

Former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, John Okiyi Kalu has said that the just concluded Abia State local government election did not have any credibility.

Okiyi, who was also Commissioner for Trade and Investment during the immediate past administration of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, said that results announced by Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) were nothing but a charade.

He alleged that in many polling units, there were complaints of missing results sheets but results were still later announced in such areas.

He further alleged that the total results announced by ABSIEC in Ohafia, his own local government, were about 53,000 even when a big party like the All Progressive Congress (APC) did not participate in the local government election.

Okiyi said that the same Ohafia local government was announced to have recorded about 20,000 votes during the 2023 guber election that produced Governor Alex Otti.

He regretted that in his own polling unit the total results cast were not up to 140 but different results were announced.

“The local government election was a charade. The local elections conducted by the PDP administration is more credible,” he said.

According to him, the Chairman of ABSIEC, Professor George Chima did not meet up the expectations of Abia people.

However, the ABSIEC Chairman, while announcing the results on Saturday, scored his Commission high.

He said the officials did their best in conducting free and fair polls and gave Abia people government at the grassroots level.
