The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to prioritize governance instead of fixating on his presidential ambitions for 2027, arguing that such distractions will not serve the interests of his constituents.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka warned that Makinde’s ongoing criticism of the APC could ultimately backfire on him and his supporters.
“While our democracy affords Makinde the liberty to pursue his political aspirations, engaging in reckless executive flippancy at the expense of the role he was elected to fulfil as Governor is a disservice to the good people of Oyo State,” Morka stated.
He further questioned Makinde’s leadership capabilities, suggesting that if he truly knew how to mitigate the influence of the APC, he should have applied that knowledge to strengthen his party nationally. “Like the proverbial bad workman who blames his tools, Makinde and his co-confused PDP leaders should quit pointing fingers at the APC and take full responsibility for their disgraceful failure to manage the party’s implosion and decay,” Morka added.
Morka’s comments were in response to remarks made by Governor Makinde during the commissioning of the Late Olusoji Adagunodo zonal secretariat of the PDP in Ibadan, where he claimed that the upcoming 2027 election would be a direct contest between the ruling APC and the Nigerian populace. Makinde asserted that only he could set the agenda for his political career.

However, Morka criticized these comments as “reckless” and “unbecoming of a leader whose party is gradually fading into irrelevance.” He emphasized that Makinde’s ambition for 2027 should not rely on “baseless and unwarranted attacks” against the APC or the administration of President Bola Tinubu, which he described as leading “the boldest and most ambitious reform effort in history” to revitalize Nigeria’s economy.
“Governor Makinde has failed to prove himself as an effective leader. His lacklustre performance as governor speaks for itself and undermines his credibility. Instead of prioritizing the needs of the Oyo people who elected him to address their local issues, he has chosen to divert his attention and squander the state’s resources in pursuit of an unrestrained 2027 ambition,” Morka stated.
Concluding his remarks, Morka asserted that Makinde lacks the capacity to represent the future electoral choices of Oyo’s citizens, saying, “Makinde and his partisan allies are simply alarmed that the transformative potential of Tinubu’s economic policies could consign their 2027 ambitions and calculations to the dustbin of political irrelevance.”
