A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, has taken legal action to ensure the upcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting proceeds as planned.
The faction seeks a court order to prevent both the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from canceling the critical meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The lawsuit, filed by one Imam Auwal at the Zamfara High Court in the Gusau Judicial Division, aims to overturn a previous injunction from the Abuja Federal High Court, which had restricted the PDP from dismissing its acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

The ruling has intensified existing tensions within the party, showcasing the ongoing power struggle among its factions.
The PDP’s internal crisis has been brewing for years, but intensified with the rise of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to prominence, who has rallied his own supporters, creating a split that threatens the party’s unity.
The faction loyal to Wike has not publicly responded to the lawsuit yet, leaving many to speculate about potential escalations.
With the NEC meeting looming, the stakes are high. The court’s decision will not only affect the factional dynamics within the PDP but also keep the political landscape tensed, as party members await clarity on the unfolding situation.
