To bridge the gap between African traditional medicine and the world, the United Nations Federation of International ASTRO Africa has partnered the National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners to enhance global recognition of African traditional medicine.
The UNFIA’s Africa Coordinator, Prof Olumuyiwa Babalola and the National President of the NANTMP, Dr Shaba Maikudi, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the UNFIA office in Abuja, recently as stated in a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH, on Saturday.
According to the agreement, the two organisations would work together to promote, preserve, and elevate traditional medicine, while creating a comprehensive database that would also connect NANTMP practitioners with a global audience.
Speaking during the signing of the MoU, Babalola emphasised the significance of the collaboration in bridging the gap between traditional African medicine and the world.
He said, “This is a transformative step forward in ensuring that the rich knowledge of African medicine is shared and appreciated on a global scale.”
On his part, Maikudi explained that the collaboration would allow practitioners to have access to opportunities for international recognition, learning, and more collaboration.
He further disclosed the plans for a UNFIA National Conference, which would amplify the role of traditional medicine in global healthcare discussions.
