Matawalle warns Amaechi not to incite Nigerians against Tinubu’s govt

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has condemned the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi’s attempt to force Nigerians to protest the high cost of living in the country.

The former minister in a chat with Igbere TV on Wednesday lamented that the youths have not taken the protest against the high cost of living in Nigeria seriously.

Amaechi said he expected Nigerians to take their campaign against the economic hardship to the streets to force the Federal Government to look into their plights and come up with solutions.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the ministry, Henshaw Ogubike, the minister cautioned the former Rivers State governor to desist from inflammatory remarks that threaten the peace and stability of the country.

He also accused Amaechi of inciting violence and unrest among the Nigerian populace.

Matawalle expressed concern over the dangers posed by such rhetoric.

He said: “It is both reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their government.

“At a time when President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the challenges facing the nation through various reforms that are yielding results.

“It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine situation of our citizens for selfish political gain.”

The minister reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to safeguarding the peace and security of every Nigerian.

He warned that any attempts to destabilise the country would not be tolerated.

Matawalle equally cautioned Amaechi not to cast aspersions on the government’s genuine intentions for the people.

“We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the prevailing situation of our people.

“It is expected that Amaechi joins hands with the government to move the country forward, rather than choose to stay aside with myopic assertions,” the ex-Zamfara State governor added.
