The Lagos State Government and the Federal Government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the transfer of Epe General Hospital to the Federal Government.
The signing ceremony took place at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed on behalf of the State Government, while the Minister of State for Health and Social Wefare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, signed on behalf of the Federal Government.
Sanwo-Olu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Jubril Gawat, disclosed that the facility would now be known as the Federal Medical Centre, Epe.
“The FMC, Epe, will be enhanced by providing specialised care, including paediatric care, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a medical ICU, and advanced surgical care, including open-heart surgeries; advanced obstetric and gynaecological services for high-risk pregnancies, and state-of-the-art emergency and trauma centre,” Gawat explained.
He added that a site had been selected for the Federal College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
“This is to take advantage of the new Federal Medical Centre, Epe, where students from FEDCAM will have their clinical postings,” Gawat added.
The transfer brings the number of FMCs in the state to two.
Before the FMC in Epe, the FG had commissioned the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute-Metta, on November 23, 1964, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria in August this year.
FMC Ebute-Metta, formerly known as the Nigerian Railway Hospital, was upgraded to a Federal Medical Centre on January 31, 2005.
