Chairperson of Etsako East Local Government Area in Edo State, Princess Benedicta Attoh, has charged the people of the local council to remain steadfast and committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.
In a statement by her Chief Press Secretary, Benjamin Atu, she urged the people to brace up for the party’s victory in the polls by constituting themselves into a one-man liberation army, driven by passion to elect a governor who could heal all that is ailing the people.
This advice is coming on the heels of Senator Francis Alimikhena’ defection a few days to the election, from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
She described the future of Edo State as a collective enterprise, and urged the people to be resolute in voting for a governor who would create an economic system that allows them to choose their own development model, capable of constructing and building an economy that can function for the masses. “The only party that has such a formidable candidate is the PDP,” she said.
She dismissed concerns about losing Etsako East due to Alimikhena’s defection, saying, “Power belongs to God. I am more prepared for an assured victory for the PDP on Saturday.
“Let no man’s heart fail him, for those with us are greater than what the eyes can see. We have a candidate who has lived a campaign perfect life. Our candidate, Asue Ighodalo will win the Saturday governorship election.”
Princess Atto, who was reacting to fears expressed in some quarters over Alimikhena’s defection, said Etsako East stands on the strength of the masses and not on an individual’s strength. “The majority is with us and election is about numbers not individual status,” she stated.
She called on the people to resist the temptation of following anyone to any party, stressing that the hardship, sinking economy, starvation, joblessness, increase in insecurity and the unstable value of the Naira, which have made Nigeria a laughing stock in the comity of nations, were sufficient reasons for people not to cast their votes for the APC.
“It’s time to vote for capacity rather than political party. Ighodalo represents a governor, who can provide hope in the midst of crisis and guide the state through difficult economic situations with renewed hope and commitment.
“He is prepared to engage the rest of the world in creating jobs and prosperity for all Edo people. It’s time to fulfil our sacred duty in our quest for a better state that will keep us all together,” she stated
Reaffirming her unflinching support for the PDP, she urged the youth and women to massively vote for Ighodalo in his determination to create a new Edo State, where everyone’s dreams could be realised.
