House Of Reps Members Storm LASU To Assess TETfund Projects

House of Representatives members have paid a scheduled visit to the main campus of Lagos State University, Ojo, for an on-the-spot assessment of TETFund funded projects in the university.

The delegation, led by a member of the House representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, was on the Ojo Campus as part of the investigative exercise being carried out on TETFUND by the Green Chamber. Hon. Biodun Salami and Hon. Adetunji were the other members of the team.

The members were received by members of the management team led by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adenike Boyo, with the Acting Director, Directorate of Special Intervention, Dr. Oseni Afisi, also present.

During the visit, Hon. Ogbara said, “We are carrying out an investigation of TETFund’s expenditure of funds and we are here in LASU being one of the beneficiary institutions to see things for ourselves. We will be looking at the projects, award letters and everything that would help our work.”

Prof Adenike Boyo, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration welcoming the federal lawmakers on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello said, “We are glad that you are here to see things for yourself. All our records are intact; the acting director of Special Interventions will make them available to you.”

Recall that in July the House of Representatives set up a committee, headed by Oluwole Oke to investigate the alleged abuse of N2.3trn generated from the Tertiary Education Tax by the Fund from 2011 to 2023.

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono who was on the floor of the house urged the House of Representatives to help it recover the outstanding debt of N323bn the federal government borrowed from the TETFund.

He had made the call at a public hearing by an ad-hoc committee of the House probing the alleged missing of N2.3trn in TETfund.
