Anambra traders lament as flood hits market, destroys multimillion naira goods

It was all crying and wailing for traders at the Afia Ekwe Building Materials Market, Ogidi/Ogbunike in Idemili North/Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Friday, following the destruction of property worth billions of naira by flood.

Our correspondent who visited the market gathered that the flood caused by persistent rainfall also submerged large sections of the market as traders’ goods were seen floating, just as some traders were seen battling to salvage the remains of their items.

Some of the traders, who spoke to our correspondent in separate interviews, said the market was flooded on Thursday midnight due to the downpour, lamenting that the destruction was very devastating.

The Chairman of the market, Adinnu Onyechi, said that the flooding was an annual occurrence, even as he decried the magnitude of the destruction to goods by the flood.
