Seven people have reportedly died and several others were hospitalized in suspected cases of gastroenteritis in Kirikasamma Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The local government’s Primary Healthcare Coordinator, Musa Abdullahi Diladige, confirmed the incident.
He said the disease has affected several communities, including Malori, Maikintari, Dilmari, Kirikasamma, and parts of Baturiya village.
The Head of the Department of Water and Sanitation, Muhammad Maisamari, reported that a team of health personnel has been dispatched to the affected areas to provide necessary medical services.
The Director of Administration and General Services, who is also the acting chairman of the council, Idris Gambo Abubakar, pledged to provide all necessary assistance to tackle the spread of the disease.
“The situation is being closely monitored by health authorities, and efforts are being made to contain the outbreak and prevent further deaths,” he said.
The local government council has also purchased drugs and other related medicines for urgent curative measures in the affected areas.
Efforts to reach the state’s Commissioner of Health by phone and message proved abortive at the time of filing this report.
