Crystal Palace could still make a move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah before the transfer window closes on Friday, with Eddie Nketiah set to arrive from Arsenal and Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg.

Chadi Riad, Ismaïla Sarr and Daichi Kamada have been the significant signings for the Eagles so far this summer, while there have been some notable exits as well.

Michael Olise has left for Bayern Munich, Joachim Anderson for Fulham and Jordan Ayew for Leicester, while Marc Guehi could still be prised away by Newcastle late in the window.

Palace appear to be working on the possibility that Guehi leaves, having already agreed a deal to buy Wolfsburg’s Lacroix for €18million (£15.2m) and still looking at defensive options.

The Daily Mail report that Chalobah is still on the Eagles’ shopping list and a late move for the 25-year-old.

The centre-back has been ousted from the first team at Chelsea and is part of the ‘bomb squad’ the club is trying to get rid of this week.

The likes of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are also on the same chopping block and face a frustrating time out of action unless they can secure a move.

Chalobah didn’t make a Premier League appearance until February last season but finished the campaign with 13 outings in the top flight as he appeared to convince previous manager Mauricio Pochettino of his qualities.

However, after another busy summer of signings for the Blues he is clearly surplus to requirements, despite being under contract until 2028.

Palace are also set to raid another of their London rivals with a move for Arsenal striker Nketiah due to be complete on Thursday.

A deal for the England international has been agreed, with the Eagles set to pay £25m, plus £5m in add-ons for the 25-year-old, who has not featured in either of Arsenal’s Premier League games so far this season.

Palace have had a very disappointing start to the Premier League season, with defeats to Brentford and West Ham in their first two games.

There was a morale boost on Tuesday night as they thrashed Norwich in the Carabao Cup and they now go to Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Chalobah could yet be representing the Blues or the Eagles when that fixture comes around.
