A dispute over debate rules is brewing between the Trump and Harris campaigns ahead of the September 10th presidential debate.
The Harris campaign is pushing for open microphones throughout the event, while the Trump campaign prefers to stick with the muted microphone format used in the previous debate.
Former President Trump questioned the impartiality of the chosen network, ABC, in a social media post. “Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network? … Stay tuned!!!” he wrote.
Harris’ spokesperson, Brian Fallon, emphasized the Vice President’s readiness to engage directly with Trump. “The Vice President is ready to deal with Trump’s constant lies and interruptions in real time. Trump should stop hiding behind the mute button,” Fallon stated.
Trump campaign senior advisor, Jason Miller, confirmed their agreement to follow the same rules as the June CNN debate, which included muted microphones.
“We said no changes to the agreed-upon rules,” Miller stated. However, Trump later expressed a preference for open microphones, stating, “Doesn’t matter to me. I’d rather have it, probably, on. But the agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time.”
The debate is set to take place following President Biden’s decision to step aside last month, paving the way for Vice President Harris to become the Democratic nominee.
