Abia 2027: Otti’ll be re-elected, LP lawmaker tells Kalu

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

A member of House of Representatives, representing Ikwuano/ Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Obi Aguocha, has said the people will re-elect Alex Otti as governor in 2027, in appreciation of his development strides.

Aguocha, who is a member of the Labour Party (LP), the platform on which Otti was elected as governor, was reacting to comments by House of Representatives Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will produce the Abia State governor in 2027.

Kalu, in an interview, which has now gone viral, said he cannot be the number six citizen in the country, and his state will be administered by another political party.

The deputy speaker, who represents Bende federal constituency of Abia State on APC platform, had also stated that next Abia governor must be from APC to show appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) Bill into law, amongst others.

Nevertheless, Aguocha, in a statement addressed to Kalu, in Abuja, yesterday, noted that there is no vacant in the Abia State Government House in 2027.

“If your ambition is to become the governor of Abia State by 2027, it is your right, but make it plain rather than hiding yourself in the shadows of discontent and display of insincerity and intemperate political culture.

“But I assure you that as you want Abians to repay Tinubu for his good works, so shall Abians repay Otti for his mammoth achievements in 2027. Otti will be re-elected governor of Abia State.

“In your recent visits and encounters with his excellency, ‘De Alley’, as you fondly call him, you had seized every opportunity to debunk many tales of your ambition for the governorship stool of Abia State in 2027 and each time pledging loyalty and support to the demonstrable and visible achievements of Governor Otti.

“My honourable colleague, you should be made to know that there is no vacancy in Abia State in 2027. As you are aware, for almost 24 years, this is the first time Abia has awakened to great leadership and governance strides. Anyone that does not appreciate Otti is an avowed enemy of progress. The Labour Party also won Bende federal constituency in 2023. We can also be brazen enough to declare that seat vacant again.

“Sir, you must now use that all-important position as deputy speaker of the 10th House of Representatives to de-marginalise and reduce the agitation of our people and promote inclusiveness.

My right honourable, this is not the first time the South East was blessed with the position of the deputy speaker. Emeka Ihedioha was in 2011. The opportunity now ought not be wasted only in rubbing shoulders and chanting your No 6 position at every opportunity.”
