The Pope has been accused of hiding ‘extraordinary’ alien secrets inside the Vatican by a UFO expert.

Extraterrestrial lobbyist Steve Bassett has claimed it is clear the Catholic church knows alien life exists and has hidden evidence in their archives.

Steve, who is executive director of the Paradigm Research Group, said the church has hinted at the existence of UFOs within religious paintings.

He told The Sun: ‘The Catholic Church, we have always known, has been aware of this subject going back perhaps hundreds and hundreds of years.

‘It’s gone so far as to say whoever these beings are, the Church would be happy to baptize them if they wanted to be baptized.’

Steve claimed the Vatican library is home to centuries worth of alien knowledge, with experts trying to access the Vatican Apostolic Archives.

But they need to be granted access by the Holy See, which is the Catholic Church’s supreme governing body.

They will then have to search through thousands of years of records stretching 50 miles long to prove their claims.

It comes after former intelligence officer David Grusch told a US congressional hearing last year the government was hiding evidence of ‘non-human intelligence’.

Mr Grusch said the US was likely aware of ‘non-human’ activity since the 1930s, and possess fully intact pieces of ‘craft’ of a ‘non-human origin’.

He added Italy had also uncovered one of the UFOs in 1933 and the then-Pope Pius XII backchannelled the findings to President Franklin Roosevelt.

Steve explained this would prove the US government knew about alien life before the Roswell incident in 1947, which is a conspiracy theory stating a crash of a US Air Force balloon was in fact a UFO.

This has only fueled Steve’s desire to search the archives.

He said: ‘As far as I know, there have been many, many books written on the research of this phenomena and it’s the first time I’d ever heard about this potential crash in ’33.

‘Who exactly found it? What was the process in which it finally got to us? What was the role of the Catholic Church?

‘How many people in our Government even knew about it at the point that Roswell happened?

‘Obviously the people at Roswell didn’t, because they put out a press release that they found a flying saucer so clearly that there was no significant impediment to putting that story out at the time.’

But Marco Grilli, secretary to the prefect of the archives, told Catholic News Service he didn’t know where Grusch got his information, saying ‘one can laugh at it’.

Religious professor Diana Walsh Pasulka said the Vatican is full of reports of paranormal events.

She told CNS: ‘The historical record is filled with these kinds of events, the people at the Vatican, they don’t even know where to look; it’s in their basements.

‘But they aren’t really prioritizing orbs that are bothering nuns in the 1800s.’
