It has been discovered that Generation Z is completely unaware of an iconic rock legend – and has been mistaking him for a breed of Spaniels.
Jarvis Cocker – not to be confused with a Cocker Spaniel – has been completely overlooked by a generation in the UK.
The Britpop singer came to fame in the 90s in the band Pulp, best known for their hit Common People in 1995.
While his name might be very well known with the older generations, youngsters in Gen Z born between 1997 and 2012 were unfamiliar with his work, to say the least.
When surveyed about British pop culture, 2,000 18 to 28-year-olds revealed their real thoughts when it comes to some of the most iconic bands of the 90s.
8% of the people surveyed believed that Jarvis was a canine, with a similar number of people believing he was the leader of the Green Party.

But it’s not just bad news for Jarvis, in fact, several people who were polled revealed they had never heard of a variety of bands and artists who were huge in the 90s.
It was bad news for Damon Albarn as 21% of the people interviewed had never heard of Blur.
15% of the people surveyed believed that Oasis’ Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher were TV presenters, and 11% believed they were chefs on television.

14% of people believed thought the band Happy Mondays was a wellness app, with 6% believing it was a Viagra pill
15% of people believed that Cool Brittania was a royal yacht. 10% believed it was the name of the national anthem, but 10% also thought it was an air conditioning company.
Drinks firm Hooch, the creators of the poll explained the data collected and blamed it on the times rather than the artists: ‘Gen Z might not know much about Jarvis Cocker and Oasis because they weren’t even born.’

While younger fans still might not be familiar with their work, Jarvis was also recently name-dropped in a Saltburn plot hole that’s been frustrating fans since the film was released.
Pulp broke up in 2001, reunited in 2011, took a break, and then reunited again in 2022.
The band is currently on a reunion tour across Europe and North America which is set to conclude in Toronto on September 11.
