A mum’s car was ‘deliberately set alight’ while her two children were still inside.

The horrified woman rushed the youngsters to safety with the help of a neighbour after the incident in Leeds on Thursday.

Police and paramedics were called to Tong Way at around 10.52pm.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson and is in custody.

The incident is not thought to be linked to the rioting in nearby Harehills the same night.

In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: ‘At 10.52pm on Thursday July 18, a woman reported her car had been deliberately set alight while two her children were still in the vehicle in Tong Way, Leeds. 

‘She and a neighbour brought the children to safety, and they were checked over by ambulance staff with no concerns found. 

‘A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson in relation to the incident and remains in custody.

‘Enquiries are ongoing.’
