The Action Alliance (AA) has reiterated its call on the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to justify the outcome of its last elective national convention supervised by its officials and other stakeholders which produced Dr Adekunle Rufai Omoaje as the party’s national chairman.
The party expressed worry on why INEC has refused to upload the name of its national chairman, Dr Omoaje on its portal despite the recognition accorded to the elective national convention of the party held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital which produced Omoaje and other members of the National Working Committee of the party.
INEC had in a letter dated 15th April, 2024 and signed by its secretary, Mrs Rose Oriaran Anthony acknowledged the elective national convention of the party that produced Omoaje as the national chairman of the Action Alliance.
In the said letter, addressed to the national chairman of the party, copy of which was sighted by our correspondent, INEC gave credence to the elective national convention of the party held in Abeokuta on 7th October, 2023 where Omoaje emerged the national chairman.
However, the commission failed to upload the name of Omoaje on the commission’s portal and website till the time of filing this report.
The party in a statement issued in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday by its national Vice Chairman (South West) Hon Joshua Adewole berated INEC on its attempt to twart the nation’s democracy through its lack of respect for the rule of law.
Specifically, Hon Adewole chastised the chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu for abuse of office and misuse of power, alleging that the INEC chairman has shown bias on the issues affecting the Action Alliance, with his undue interest in an expelled member of the party, Mr Kenneth Udeze, whose name appear on the INEC portal as the national chairman of the party.
He said different courts including the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, the Court of Appeal, Abuja and the Supreme Court had upheld the expulsion of Udeze from the Action Alliance and therefore expressed worry on why INEC still recognizes an expelled member of the party as the national chairman.
Hon Adewole recalled that INEC once wrote a letter to Udeze to work with the National Executive members elected at the elective national convention of the party held in Abeokuta.
“It is obvious that Prof. Mamhood Yakubu is acting in error by still dealing with the non-members of Action Alliance as the national executives of the party,” he said.
However, attempts to get the reaction of INEC failed as the commission’s Director of Voters Education and Public Enlightenment did not respond to the several calls put across to him or reply to the message sent to his mobile line
