No faction in NNPP, just internal democracy – Founder Aniebonam

From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja

The founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, has stated that the party is not factionalised.

During an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Dr Aniebonam clarified that the party is experiencing internal democracy.

He expressed disappointment that the NNPP is no longer fulfilling its founding aim of creating space and choice for ordinary Nigerians.

“There is no faction in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). What we are experiencing is internal democracy,” he asserted.

Dr Aniebonam lamented that Nigerians blame him for giving Rabiu Kwankwaso a platform in the party, alleging that the former governor has hijacked the NNPP.

“I founded this party in 2001 with the main aim of creating space and choice for ordinary Nigerians, but it is no longer representing its name,” Aniebonam remarked.

“All I wanted was a better Nigeria, which the involvement of Kwankwaso and others has frustrated.”

Regarding the party’s certificate, Dr Aniebonam affirmed that it is in his possession. He described Kwankwaso’s attempt to change the party’s logo as a distraction.

He criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for not verifying the party’s original certificate before acknowledging the logo change.

Dr Aniebonam urged INEC to exercise caution, emphasising that Nigeria’s democracy hinges on the commission’s actions.

He added that it is time to empower the younger generation to lead, stating that the older generation has failed Nigerians.
