The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) has come under fire from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Secretary, Abdullah Kayode Abdulrahman, over its handling of the election timetable.
Speaking at a one-day pre-election stakeholders’ forum organised by KWASIEC in Ilorin, Abdullahi expressed concern over the commission’s decision to extend the timetable twice. He argued that this action had distorted the procedures initially released by KWASIEC.
Abdullahi called on KWASIEC to communicate the revised timetable not only to registered political parties but also to the general public. He stated that the public did not anticipate such actions from the commission and boasted that the PDP is far ahead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in preparation for the 2024 local government elections.

The PDP State Secretary asserted that KWASIEC’s activities so far were not commendable. He questioned the authority under which the commission was extending the timetable.
Furthermore, Abdullahi urged KWASIEC to caution its yet-to-be-employed ad-hoc staff, Electoral Officers (EOs), and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs) to remain neutral before, during, and after the local government elections.
He warned the commission against allowing the APC to recruit ad-hoc staff on its behalf, emphasizing the importance of neutrality in the electoral process. Abdullahi stressed that this would ensure free, fair, and credible elections, unhindered by partisan interference.
