Argentina captain, Lionel Messi has surpassed Brazilian legends, Cafu and Roberto Carlos’ record for reaching the most number of international finals (7) after leading his team to Copa America 2024 final.
Recall that both Cafu and Carlos had reached six finals for Brazil during their playing days.
The 37-year-old also surpassed Iran’s Ali Daei’s international goals record to become the second all-time top-scorer (109), only behind his arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo (130).
Before getting ahead, Messi tied Daei (108) on the all-time scoring list with two goals in a 4-1 win over Guatemala in the eve of Copa America’s kickoff.
Messi scored a goal as Albiceleste defeated Canada 2-0 in the semi-final on Tuesday.
His teammate Julian Alvarez was also on target for the defending champions.
Argentina will now play either Uruguay or Colombia at the Miami Gardens in the Copa America 2024 final.
