The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Abayomi Oladipo, has advised corps members to uphold the integrity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during the governorship election in the state.
Oladipo, who addressed the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko, warned the corps members not to allow any politician use them for malfeasance during the conduct of the November 16 governorship election.
The CP said corps members selected for conduct of the election should shun avarice and abide by the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC).
Oladipo said that in spite of security challenges, police were ever ready to protect the corps members.
He assured the corps members of their safety in the state, saying that the police in collaboration with other security agencies were resolved to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in the state.
The CP said he had tasked the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) and Area Commanders to intensify monitoring of corpers lodges and residential buildings occupied by corps members within their jurisdiction.
He encouraged the corps members not to misuse the privilege extended to them.
Oladipo implored them to alert security personnel of any security challenges or breach around their environment.
Also, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Sam Pepple, said that the police commissioner’s visit was an assurance to the corps members that they were safe in the state.
Pepple said that he was proud of the corps members and pleaded with them not to disappoint the scheme during the forthcoming election.
The coordinator appreciated the CP for the visit and sought for security coverage for corps members wherever they were posted within the state.
In the same vein, the Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, John Lar, has assured corps members deployed to the state that their security is guaranteed.
The brigade commander gave the assurance when he addressed the corps members during their orientation.
Lar said the Nigerian Army has security arrangements in place and has been providing security for members of the service corps since it was established over five decades ago.
The one star general urged the corps members to be law-abiding and discharge their duties faithfully to the best of their knowledge.
Lar enjoined the corps members to be conscious of their security at all times, urging them to report any threat to lives and properties to security agencies around them.
According to the general, whose area of jurisdiction covers Ondo and Ekiti states, the security architecture put in place by his command is adequate and topnotch.
The security chief wished the corps members the best of the service year while reminding them to promote the unity and integration of the country as spelt out in the objectives of the NYSC scheme.
In his welcome address, state Coordinator, Pepple, said the collaboration and synergy among the security agencies and NYSC has ensured adequate security cover for the entire camp community, especially for the corps members majority of whom are visiting the state for the first time.
He said the brigade commander’s visit was a confirmation of his statement during the briefing exercise when he visited security chiefs in the state and asked for their support for the scheme, and most importantly, the corps members serving in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
Pepple also said Nigerian Army, like any other members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, places premium on the patriotic graduate youths who obeyed the clarion call to serve the fatherland.
The highlight of the private visit was a cultural display by the selected representatives of the corps members as well as parade and military salutes incorporated into the colourful event by the NYSC parade and musical band.
