The National Assembly has reiterated its commitment to collaborating with professional bodies like the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to enhance good governance, accountability, and transparency in the country.
Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District, gave this assurance at the weekend during a celebratory dinner in honour of the newly inducted 60th President of ICAN, Davidson Alaribe.
Akobundu emphasised the critical role ICAN has played in championing accountability and transparency in Nigeria for over 59 years. He congratulated Alaribe on his new role and lauded his dedication and leadership qualities.
“As you assume the leadership of this Institute as its 60th President, we are hopeful for a more robust relationship with the National Assembly. ICAN members’ expertise in promoting prudence and a good financial management system is critical for our collective development, even in the face of the socio-economic challenges we are facing as a nation.”

Highlighting Alaribe’s contributions to both ICAN and his community in Abia State, Akobundu noted that his ascension to this height in his professional career is a testament to his unwavering spirit of service and hard work.
“As you discharge the responsibilities placed on your shoulders, I am confident that you will continue to uphold the high standards of integrity and professionalism that ICAN represents, steering this great Institute to greater heights.”
In his address, Alaribe expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to uphold the values and standards while continuing to drive initiatives laid out by the previous administration.
“My vision is to build on the legacy of my predecessors and introduce innovative measures that will further entrench the culture of integrity and professionalism among our members.”
Alaribe also highlighted key areas of focus, which include strengthening the capacity of ICAN members through continuous professional development, enhancing the Institute’s regulatory framework, and advocating for policies that promote financial discipline.
