Vital assistance is now available for victims of albinism as they can use Anthelios, a new, highly effective sunscreen specially formulated to meet their needs.
This cheery development was made public when
La Roche Posay and L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty, hosted a significant event at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, to raise awareness among stakeholders in the beauty and personal care value chain on albinos and other people can prevent skin cancer.
Notable personalities, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on Health, Dr. Toni Adeyemi; immediate past president of the National Association of Dermatologists (NAD), Dr. Tahir Mohammed; representative of the Medical Guild Lagos and the Nigerian Medical Association Lagos, Dr Ruth Oaku; National President of the Albinism Association of Nigeria (AAN), Mrs. Bisi Bamishe, and Founder, The Albino Foundation,
Mr Jake Epelle, Director (Monitoring, Evaluation and Orientation), Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs (LASODA), Mrs Folusho Adeolu, were in attendance at the awareness and advocacy event.
Several members of the albinism community in Lagos, including children and a few PWA representatives from around the country, also graced the occasion.
The hosts of the event were the Director of L’Oreal Dermatological Beauty Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr Rabah Deroueche, and the Chief Executive of Ricks and Clare Solution, Mrs. Beatrice Eneh, whose company represents L’Oreal Dermatology For its Go-to-Market and Medical Strategy in Nigeria.
The meeting was moderated by Dr Folakemi Cole-Adeife, a consultant dermatologist in Lagos, and Mr Emeka Ugwu, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Albinism Association of Nigeria.
The program featured a comprehensive introductory presentation by Dr Cole-Adeife on the challenges faced by people with albinism, particularly with sun protection and skin cancer.
