Euro 2024: Georgia goalkeeper, Mamardashvili names favourites to win trophy

Ahead of their final Group F game in the ongoing Euro 2024 championship, Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has named Portugal as one of the favourite countries to win the tournament.

He, however, sent a defiant message to the former champions.

Both countries are to meet this Wednesday, June 26, with Portugal already in the last 16 of the tournament.

While Portugal beat Turkey 3-0 to make two wins in two matches, Georgia picked up their first point when they played out a 1-1 draw with Czech Republic.

At a pre-match press conference, Mamardashvili said via OneFootball), “First of all, I am very satisfied and happy because we are here and we have taken our first point.

“This is a historic moment. Of course, we could have won at the last moment, I’m a little disappointed. But this is football, anything can happen.”

Speaking on the contest against Ronaldo’s side, he added, “Three points would have been very important, but one point will do because we continue our fight and we will have a very difficult match against Portugal.

“They are one of the favorite teams to win the Euro. But we’ll play our game there. We will do our best and we will see.”
