Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter has directed all its members to commence a seven-day warning strike on Monday, June 24, 2024, to further press home the demands of the union.

This was made known on Sunday in a notification letter signed by the union President, John Fabunmi, and sent to the members in all health institutions including ministries, departments and local government areas, a copy of which was obtained by The PUNCH in Ibadan.

According to him, the strike action was imperative to further make known demands of the union, which it had reminded the state government but nothing was done to assuage the situation.

The letter reads in part, “Re: Notification of Industrial Action. Sequel to our letter with ref. No. OYSC/MHWUN/AD/INDU.ACT/0524 dated May 27, 2024, on the above subject matter giving the state government a 14-day ultimatum to attend to all our grievances, we wish to draw the attention of Your Excellency to the fact that up till now nothing has been done to assuage the present situation.

“In view of the present situation and agitations from every quarter in our union, the union has, therefore, resolved to embark on a seven-day warning strike to further press for the attention of the government to attend to agitations.

“All our members in all health institutions, ministries and all Local Governments will be participating in the seven days warning strike which will commence at 12:01 am midnight of Monday, June 24, 2024, after further actions may be embarked upon,” Fabunmi added.
