LEGENDARY trainer Sir Mark Prescott has insisted ‘nobody can say I’m cheating’ after his astonishing 27-length winner floored punters.
The 75-year-old pulled off another masterclass when Golden Shot decimated his rivals to continue his progressive three-year-old season and give Frederick Daly a winning first ride.

It was another genius piece of placing by Prescott, finding him a very winnable race with a hidden gem jockey claiming 7lb.
Golden Shot, like many of Prescott’s was well beaten in four starts as a two-year-old but has thrived since going handicapping.
Speaking to Racing Post, Prescott explained his methods, with the type of horses he buys being the key factor as to why they come into their own with age.
He said: “Everybody always thinks there is some awful plot, that’s only because they believe the trainer is a villain.
“When one of the horses starts at a short price, I always say to the owner: ‘They don’t trust you, that’s the trouble.’
“Nobody can say I’m cheating because the horse has been thoroughly exposed and everybody knows what sort of horse he is.”
Prescott explained further about the risk involved with horses such as Golden Shot.
He said it was an ‘act of faith’ throwing the horse into races in which he hoped it would show improvement.
Many punters were counting their cash when Golden Shot hosed up at Ffos Las.
He was heavily backed before the off and several punters on Twitter joked it was ‘like buying money’.
Another commented on Daly’s skill in the saddle, writing: “Brilliant! Love Golden Shot and what a great way to start your race-riding career.”
Prescott enjoyed one of the biggest wins of his career when Alpinista won the 2022 Arc de Triomphe.
Speaking before that emotional day, Prescott revealed he used to smoke 10 cigars a day.
‘The Baron’ also lives on his own and wakes up at 4am each and every day – a testament to his dedication.
Prescott won his first Group 1 way back in 1996 and continues to have a steady stream of winners year on year.
