He could still be waiting to lift his first trophy as a player after the dust has settled on this summer’s European Championship, but Harry Kane’s move to the Bundesliga may have laid the foundation for him to win the Golden Boot at a major tournament for the second time.
England’s greatest goalscorer tucked away the 63rd goal in 91 internationals for his country when he pounced in the 89th minute of the 3-0 win over friendly rivals Bosnia-Herzegovina at St James’ Park last week, moving ten clear of Wayne Rooney – who previously held the record – in the process.
Kane, who will celebrate his 31st birthday at the end of next month, has already proved he can deliver the goods on the biggest stage of all by winning the same award at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, scoring six times, which was two more than Antoine Griezmann and Romelu Lukaku.
He also struck four times at Euro 2020, including the winner in the semi-final against Denmark which took the Three Lions to the ill-fated final against Italy at Wembley, and was lights out at Tottenham, scoring 280 to eclipse the record of 266 netted by the legendary Jimmy Greaves.
The England captain won the Premier League Golden Boot on three occasions with 25 goals in 2015/2016, 29 the following season and 23 during the 20/21 campaign before joining Bayern Munich in an £86million move last August.
He hit the ground running, powering in 44 goals in all competitions and gained another award for being the top scorer in the Bundesliga with 36 of those goals in the German top-flight.
The move means Kane will be familiar with all the grounds hosting England matches and with Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka among the players setting him up with chances galore, there’s no reason why he can’t bag another decent haul at Euro 2024.
France’s Kylian Mbappe will be a danger after scoring 16 times in 16 appearances in the last three major tournaments and Cristiano Ronaldo will also find the net on a regular basis but Kane is worth following at 11/2 with Betway, bet365, Betfred and Sky Bet to add another Golden Boot to his collection.

Rasmus Hojlund finished an injury-hit first season at Manchester United with 16 goals, including five in the team’s disastrous Champions League campaign, and the 21-year old scored seven in eight games as Denmark qualified top of their group. The Danes reached the semi-finals at the last European Championship and Hojlund is worth an each-way flutter at 40/1 with Paddy Power and Betfair.
• New French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz will now turn his attentions to retaining his Wimbledon title as he bids to win a fourth grand slam. The world No.2 is the one to beat in SW19 and he’s joint favourite with Jannik Sinner, the player he beat in the semi-finals on the Roland Garros clay, to triumph in the grass-court tournament. Back Alcaraz at 17/10 with BetMGM, BetUK and Unibet.
• Defending champions England have their backs against the wall at the T20 World Cup after Scotland ramped up the pressure on them with a huge victory against Oman. Jos Buttler’s team need to win big against the same opposition in Antigua on Thursday and then against Namibia on Saturday to qualify for the Super Eights if they are to avoid a humiliating early exit. Buttler is expected to lead by example at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium against Oman and he’s 11/2 with Betfair to be the man of the match and 13/5 with the same firm and Paddy Power to be England’s top batter.
