An uninspiring mix of blustery showers and sunny spells is expected this weekend and could be repeated throughout the rest of the month.
The Met Office expects pockets of light rain across the UK on Saturday, with heavier rainfall in Wales and Scotland.
Forecasters say central areas will experience a ‘band of cloud and showers’ throughout much of the day.
Southern areas are more likely to see sunny spells, while the North is predicted to have ‘frequent and blustery’ showers.

Forecasters say temperatures will generally be slightly cooler than normal for this time of year, with a ‘brisk breeze’ to match.
This includes highs of 18°C in London and Southampton, 17°C along the rest of the south coast, 14°C in Manchester and Newcastle and 17°Cin Birmingham.
Next week’s story is a ‘general continuation initially, of sunshine and showers for many areas’, the Met Office says.

Even well into June, temperatures will stay cool and some rain showers may get quite heavy in the southeast, the forecast adds.
The UK is expected to bask in just one day of consistent sunshine toward the end of the week before reverting back to ‘unsettled weather’ on the weekend.
The Met Office warns that weekend’s ‘wettest conditions are likely to be in the southwest, with driest weather in the northeast at first and temperatures nearer average’.
As the month of dreary weather drags on, there may be some more pleasant patches, but the predominant pattern will be ‘cool’ and ‘showery’.

Toward the end of the month, weather signals are too weak to make reliable forecasts.
But the Met Office leaves us with this not-so-tantalising tidbit: ‘All areas can expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times.
‘Temperatures are most likely to be close to normal or slightly above.’
