German police say they’ve found an email account linking Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner to the girl’s disappearance.

Titus Stampa, a senior detective investigating the Madeleine McCann case, told a court they’d found emails on a Hotmail account used by Brueckner, the prime suspect, which ‘directly’ link him to the case.

Brueckner is currently on trial in Germany for unrelated sex crimes, and he has consistently denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance from a resort in Portugal in 2007.

But Mr Stampa said he could not share details of the evidence because it was ‘related to the killing’ of Madeleine McCann, MailOnline reports.

This is the first time an official working on the case has claimed to have evidence connecting Brueckner to her disappearance.

Speaking at the Braunschweig regional court in Germany, Mr Stampa referred to the ‘murder’ email account allegedly possessed by Brueckner.

He didn’t say whether emails recovered included photos or videos implicating the suspect.

Mr Stampa claimed police had found a second account where Brueckner – a convicted paedophile – had shared media of child abuse with other abusers.

He had allegedly deleted all emails from that account in early 2007, around the time of Madeleine’s disappearance.

Prosecutors received access to the emails after making an application to Microsoft in 2019, LBC reports.

Brueckner reportedly tried to delete dozens of emails from the account which he had shared with other paedophiles, which included videos of abuse of young children, Mr Stampa added.

He said: ‘I can remember that things were ‘massively’ deleted in the inbox. There was nothing in there from January 2007.’

Brueckner was investigated by German and Portuguese police for three years before he was officially named as a suspect in 2020.

He’s currently on trial for a number of rape and sexual assault charges which all allegedly took place in Portugal. He denies all charges against him and the trial continues.
