The Nigeria Police Force has announced the recovery of counterfeit currencies valued at over N129 billion in Kano State.
The operation, carried out on December 8, 2024, in Gwale, Kano, led to the arrest of three suspects and the discovery of large amount of fake currency.
This was contained in a statement by the Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the operation was part of efforts to curb financial crimes and protect the country’s economy.
“On December 8, 2024, at Gwale, Kano, operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Nura Ibrahim and discovered counterfeit currency amounting to N129,542,823,000. The breakdown of the counterfeit money includes $3,366,000 in counterfeit US dollars, 51,970 counterfeit CFA francs, and N1,443,000 in counterfeit naira notes,” Adejobi revealed.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two accomplices, identified as Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, who are believed to be part of the counterfeit operation.
Adejobi emphasized the significance of the arrests, noting police’s commitment to tackling financial crimes.
The Force reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding the country’s economy from criminal elements.
