In a major triumph over terrorism, the Nigerian Army forces, operating under Operation Fansan Yanma, have effectively neutralized more than 20 terrorists and taken down several camps in the states of Sokoto and Kebbi.
The wide-ranging operations focused on multiple Local Government Areas (LGAs), bringing back peace to areas that were once terrorized.
According to Zagazola Makama counter terrorism and security expert in lake Chad, the activities traversed Illela, Tangaza, Gudu, Binji, and Silami LGAs in Sokoto State, along with Augie, Arewa, Argungu, and Dandi LGAs in Kebbi State.
These regions, which have suffered from insecurity for a long time, are now experiencing a slow return to normalcy.
Operations focused on key terrorist strongholds within TSAUNA, BAUNI, and SARMA forests. Significantly, in SARMA RUGA, soldiers participated in a fierce battle, eliminating 20 terrorists.
The escaping attackers left behind weapons, provisions, and their shelters, which were later obliterated by the military.
In Manja village, which had been abandoned for four years because of banditry, troops reinstated safety, encouraging locals to come back to their residences.
Residents conveyed their appreciation to the Nigerian Army for freeing the region.
The operation additionally revealed a recently formed terrorist camp close to Mai Hills.
The camp was destroyed by troops, who retrieved the forsaken supplies and interfered with the group’s logistics system. The initiative reached Jaima village, a border community, where cooperation with Nigerien forces enhanced the mission’s effectiveness.
Further progress was achieved in the villages of Tafkin Taramna and Tumbukum. Ambush sites and patrols were set up to maintain pressure on the terrorists, tracking their movements and preventing them from regrouping.
The ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army have instilled fresh hope in the communities impacted in Sokoto and Kebbi. The actions emphasize the dedication to eliminating terrorism and reinstating security throughout the area.
