Laolu Akande, the former spokesman for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said on Sunday his principal has not quit politics or dump the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In an interview with journalists in Lagos, Akande dismissed speculations on Osinbajo’s retirement from politics, emphasizing that the former vice president remains a committed member of the APC.
He said: “There is no reason to think he has left the APC or politics.
“To the best of my knowledge, he is still very much a member of the party. If invited to any APC caucus meeting, he will certainly attend.”
Osinbajo’s absence from APC meetings has fueled rumours of his retirement from active politics, particularly after his loss to President Bola Tinubu in the party’s presidential primary held in 2022.

While some attribute his retreat from politics to the fallout from the primary election, others point to his new role as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), a position that demands significant international engagement.
Akande, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Osinbajo during his tenure, dismissed claims that personal or political grievances influenced his boss’ political activity.
“He (Osinbajo) never told me he left politics. I think people are simply making assumptions based on his current engagements,” he added.
Akande reassured Nigerians that Osinbajo remains available to serve the APC and the nation whenever needed.
