Some residents of the Ovom street area of Aba, Abia State, who abandoned their homes following a devastation caused by erosion have expressed their willingness to return home.
The residents, who included natives, shop owners and other affected individuals, said they left Ovom in fear when the gully erosion swallowed some houses and trees.
They praised the Abia State government for its current efforts in reclaiming the area, alleging that previous administration in the State abandoned them to their fate, which according to them, allowed the gully to widen and deepen in size.
Some of the residents, including Okoro Anagha and Isong Mathew, while speaking to DAILY POST, said that they relocated to villages in Obingwa LGA after their former homes in Ovom were affected by the gully, adding that they are willing to return to their former houses and business premises.
Also speaking on the land recovery, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Governor Alex Otti, Ferdinand Ekeoma said that the governor was tackling the massive disaster.
“Work is being intensified at the Ovom erosion site in Aba. Those who deserted their houses or were evacuated would heave a sigh of relief when the project is completed,” he said.
