Cristiano Ronaldo has requested for Al-Nassr to sign Casemiro from Manchester United, according to reports.
Ronaldo’s own future remains uncertain as he is yet to reach an agreement over a new contract with the Saudi Pro League side.
The 39-year-old’s current deal, which is worth in excess of £177 million a year, expires this summer, meaning that he could leave as a free agent.
Al-Nassr are keen to keep Ronaldo but according to Marca, the Portugal international wants the team to be significantly strengthened in order to compete with Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal.
The report claims that one of the players who Ronaldo wants Al-Nassr to sign is his former Real Madrid and Manchester United teammate Casemiro.
The 32-year-old, who was a key part of Madrid’s success alongside Ronaldo in the last decade, has been given the green light to leave United this month and Saudi Arabia appears to be his most-likely destination.
United signed Casemiro in a £70m deal from Real Madrid in 2022 but the club now want his £350,000-a-week salary off their wage bill in order to free up funds to help bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.
Speaking last week, Ronaldo insisted that he was content to stay in Saudi Arabia but highlighted Al-Nassr’s need to strengthen the team.
‘I’m happy and my family is happy,’ Ronaldo said.
‘We started a new life in this beautiful country. Life is good, football is good. In terms of individual and collective, we are still there. We are still improving.
‘It’s hard to compete with teams like Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad, but we are still there, still pushing and fighting. Football is like that; you have good moments and bad moments.
‘But, for me, the most important thing is to be professional, to push hard, respect the club, respect your contract and believe that things will change – for Al Nassr to try to win more titles.’
