A TEENAGE boy has been killed by fireworks in a New Year’s Eve tragedy.

Emergency services tried desperately to resuscitate the youngster but without success.

Exactly what happened is still unclear, but Dutch authorities confirmed the death of an adolescent boy after a firework exploded in his hands in Rotterdam.

The boy was fatally injured at around 8.30pm this evening.

He was reportedly found on a tram track.

It is unclear whether he set the firework off himself or if it misfired.

Witnesses are still being interviewed and cops are working to establish the circumstances around the death.

A police spokesperson said: “A 14-year-old boy from Rotterdam died around 20:30 after being seriously injured by fireworks on the Watergeusstraat in Rotterdam.

Unfortunately, resuscitation was no longer possible.

We wish his family much strength.

The police are investigating.
