Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lambasted former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili, for saying present Governor Siminalayi Fubara stopped the Minister from turning Rivers into his private estate.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, quoted Odili commending Fubara for stopping Wike from plundering the state resources and turning it into his private property.
Odili who spoke at a Christmas event organized by him in honour of Fubara and his family, said the governor summoned an unusual courage to confront Wike in his bid to capture Rivers through what he called a ferocious, but unnecessary political war for the control of the state’s resources.
“It is now over 12 months, since the 25th October 2023, when a fierce existential fight, though unnecessary, was waged against Governor Fubara over the soul of Rivers State,” the former Governor said.

“Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the state as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance, and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be,” he added.
But responding to the comments by Odili, Olayinka said it was disappointing for the former governor who should be an elder statesman to reduce himself to a “ridiculous level of partisanship”.
In a statement posted on his X handle @OlayinkaLere on Saturday night, the FCT Minister’s aide said Odili has lost the status of statesmanship by attacking Wike.
“Read the comments made by the former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, today, and I can’t but be disappointed that someone who should be acting like an elder statesman can reduce himself to such ridiculous level of partisanship,” Olayinka wrote.
“Well, he will get his deserved response from the FCT Minister in due course”, he added.
