Mohamed Salah has become the first player in Premier League history to score and assist in eight games in the same season, just 18 matches into the current campaign.
The Egyptian forward scored one and provided two assists in Liverpool’s 5-0 romp at West Ham on Sunday evening.
The rampant victory took the Reds eight points clear at the top of the table, with Nottingham Forest their surprise nearest challengers after a win at Everton.
Salah was the star of the show once again, taking his tally to 20 goals for the season already in all competitions, in just 26 appearances.
In the Premier League alone it is the eighth match he has both scored and assisted, breaking a record he previously shared with a string of greats of the division.
Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Robin van Persie, Harry Kane and Bruno Fernandes all scored and assisted in seven Premier League matches in the same season, but now Salah holds the record alone.
On his individual achievements, Salah told Sky Sports: ‘The only thing in my mind, to be fair, is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that. That’s the only thing I focus on since the beginning of the season.
‘I will do my best for the team to win the trophy and we are in the right direction.
‘But of course there are a few other teams that are really trying to catch up with us and they are very good teams so we just need to stay focussed and humble and work hard and just go again.’
Arne Slot’s superb record as Liverpool manager continues since his arrival over the summer, sitting top of the Premier League and Champions League.
The Dutchman has been helped a lot by the incredible form of Salah, who he says is certainly in the conversation to be the best player on the planet right now.
‘If you look at his numbers you can’t argue that,’ he told Sky Sports of Salah being the best in the world. ‘But there are different players playing in different leagues so there is a lot of quality, but Mo is definitely up there at the moment.
‘He’s in a very good place, you can’t argue about that and let’s hope he can stay like this for a long time.’
