The Deputy General Manager of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr Ambrose Jonah, has urged residents of the state to prioritize the cleanliness of their environment during the 2024 Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Jonah spoke on Monday in Umuahia, the state capital shortly after a campaign to sensitize residents on the proper disposal of refuse.
He said the aim of the agency is to make Abia one of the cleanest states in Nigeria through collaboration with everyone living in the state.
He advised residents of the state to always bag their refuse and dispose of it at the designated ASEPA buckets within their vicinity.
He said, “We are calling on Abians to maintain a clean environment during this Christmas celebration. If they eat, they shouldn’t litter the street with leftover food items. We plead with all residents of the state to bag their waste and dispose of it at the appropriate buckets.
“The truth is that Governor Alex Otti is God sent to Abia State. The way he is encouraging Abia State Environmental Protection Agency is very one wonderful and that is why we have assured him that we cannot disappoint him.
“We have no other business than to ensure that the environment is clean. The year 2025 is going to be more engaging for us because we will sustain our awareness campaign and street-to-street refuse collection because we aim to make Abia one of the cleanest states in Nigeria.”
